Under the spotlight:
Apple, the American multinational, has outsourced the production of the new Iphone14 smartphone to India and the production of the new iPad tablets and new AirPods earphones to Vietnam, thus reducing its dependence on China and optimizing supplies, assembly and logistics. Obviously not without considering that India is the next main growth driver considering the Indian domestic market in terms of value and volume, the second largest smartphone market in the world after China and ahead of the US, and also favoring Make in India, the Indian government initiative set to encourage and incentivize foreign companies to manufacture and assemble in India.
To date, iPhone production in India cannot yet compete numerically with that in China but Foxconn, Apple's Taiwanese contract manufacturer, is expanding its investment by expanding production plants in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and India is also aiming at developing the production of chips, semiconductors and integrated circuits in the next two years.
Last but not least, the choice to focus on India is that of many other contract manufacturers that supply products to American brands and, following the need to reduce dependence on China, select India as the new "factory of the world" along with 2 other fellow countries: Vietnam and Mexico.
